duffle bag boy

Sometimes I ponder if my malcontent is rooted in some entitlement that society incepted into my mind. When I’m driving around koreatown sometimes I’ll hit the Mexican enclaves. I realize that for some of these people, life is nothing but a Makaveli song–they will live and die on these same blocks. And the thing that blows your mind is that they are resigned, maybe even happy with that. One day I was ranting to Matt about the homies. I mean, c’mon we can do better, we can pick ourselves up. And he looks at me and just says, Eric, not everyone was meant to be successful. That’s when it sort of hit me. We live in a society where from childhood you are told you are special. I guess I’m just one of the few that really bought into that notion. Chinese laborers will work 12 hours a day for beans at an Apple factory store that is liable to blow up from aluminum dust… and I’m guessing they are OKAY with that, because that is life. I would never be, not because I am inherently entitled… because I was taught to be so. This is an incomplete thought because I can only say so much. I’m only 23 with some money seeds…

Next week I’m 24. Birthdays are funny for me. To me, it’s the one day you can command unquestioned loyalty from your friends. Not sure how it is for you, but that is how it is staged in my life. but for the rest of those 364 days of the year, as a friend be sacrificing, kind… and a trolling asshole.

  1. “not everyone was meant to be successful” <- true that :0) and sometimes (most of the time), the true blessing in disguise.

    happy 24th echo!
